PANJIM: Almost 65 percent of the industrial plots allotted in last two years are vacant. As per information provided to the State Legislative Assembly, of the 110 plots allotted by the government in the last two years, 72 are vacant. The 110 plots were allotted in 11 industrial estates.
Interestingly, of the 33 plots allotted in the newly-registered Panchwadi industrial estate, 31 are vacant with the project proponents yet to submit a plan to the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) for approval.
Of the 25 plots allotted at Kundaim industrial estate 15 are vacant for non submission of the plan. Similarly, around 13 plots are vacant in Verna industrial estate as the plots have not been handed over to the units as yet.
The other industrial estates where plots are vacant include Pissurlem (6), Tuvem (4), Canacona (2) and one each at Cuncolim, Honda, Shiroda and Sanguem.
The information was provided by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to a written question tabled by Leader of the Opposition Chandrakant Kavalekar.
There are also 72 plots measuring 4,22,882 sq mtrs available for setting up new industrial units.
There are 24 plots available at Panchwadi industrial estate with total area of 83,350 sq mtrs and another 22 plots with area of 1,67,103 sq mtrs in Sanguem industrial estate. There are ten plots available at Kundaim industrial estate and six at Verna.
