Congress corners BJP on IFFI expenditure

MARGAO: Alleging that gross irregularities had come to light during the recent Assembly session, the Margao Congress Block has demanded that BJP’s Sharmad Raiturkar come clean on the expenditure for the cultural programmes organised at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, as part of IFFI 2013.

Margao Congress Block president Gopal Naik pointed to contradictions in the replies given by Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar in the recent Assembly session and that of then Information and Publicity Minister Milind Naik in the 2014 July Assembly session.
“The written reply given by Parsekar to Margao MLA Digambar Kamat makes it clear that Sharmad Pai Raiturkar was responsible for organizing the cultural programmes at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao. The reply further stated that Rs 27.56 lakh was spent on this, involving five agencies,” said Naik.
He continued, “Incidentally, the written reply to the assembly by Milind Naik on July 28, 2014, stated that no amount has been paid for the cultural programme and artistes for IFFI 2013, when the CM’s response states that Rs 1.74 crore was spent on cultural programmes, venue contracts and decoration for IFFI 2013.”
