PANJIM: There was a major security lapse at the Goa Legislative Assembly on Monday as an armed Police Security Officer of former Maharashtra MLA Pramod Jathar walked into the inner lobby of the Assembly breaking all security measures. Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar was present in the lobby when the security was breached.
Speaker Dr Pramod Sawant has sought a report from the Director General of Police Muktesh Chander by Wednesday. “I have asked Police Department to give a detailed report on the security lapse as to how the guard with a gun was allowed inside the Assembly complex,” Sawant said when contacted.
The guard was accompanying Jathar who is former MLA from Kankavli constituency. The incident occurred in the evening when the Assembly was in session.
Sources stated that the Police Department has issued a show cause notice to three policemen seeking an explanation and issued them a memo.
“All the three were on duty when the lapse occurred. They didn’t only let the guard come into the complex but he was allowed inside the inner lobby of the House where legislators sit,” a senior police officer from security range said.
