Winds destroy property worth Rs 2.30 lakh in Salcete

Strong winds left a couple of houses and compound walls in Salcete for the second day today, destroying property worth around Rs 2.30 lakh in the last two days.
An uprooted tree came crashing down on the garage of PWD Minister Churchill Alemao at Varca, leaving the garage and a vehicle damaged. The total loss was put at Rs 50,000.
In another incident, a tree came down on a car at Navelim-Sirvodem, leaving the vehicle damaged, informed Assistant Fire Divisional Officer, Prakash Parab.
The house of one Sudesh Malkarnekar was also damaged after an uprooted tree came down the house, he added.
Similarly, the fire services received calls of trees falling on houses at Ambelim and Santimol-Rachol.
Wednesday saw personnel of the fire services on their toes as they received calls from across Salcete. Over two dozen trees are reported to have come crashing down on the roads, causing traffic disruptions.
