PERNEM: Forty years and more, the Pernem Electricity Department offices which runs in the buildings initially build as quarters for residential purpose, with no timely maintenance are now in bad conditions as the roofs are developing cracks and chunks of ceiling are peeling off.
Though the new building complex is already proposed and the paper work is under process, as temporary measures, some roofs’ tiles are being replaced with metal sheets and repair work of ceiling which is peeling off is going on.
Officials informed that temporary maintenance work is being carried out.
“All the offices of Electricity Department will be shifted in the proposed new complex when it is ready. Land is already identified for the project. There are two old structures in the premises which will be demolished and new complex building will come up,” informed an official.
The Pernem Electricity Department looks after 14 village panchayats and one municipal area. However, the Pernem Electricity Department never had a separate office complex to house.
The offices are occupied in the quarters which were supposed to be used for the residential purpose.
