BICHOLIM: Union Minister Prakash Javdekar on Saturday accused the Congress of delaying the agriculture bills for more than 10 years thereby depriving farmers of their rights and benefits.
Speaking at a meeting held for farmers of Mayem in Bicholim taluka, he said, “Swaminathan Commission had proposed to give farmers three times of the average production cost. For 10 years NCP leader Sharad Pawar was the agriculture minister and every time I used to raise this question as to when the Swaminathan’s proposal will be implemented.” He said, “I used to get the same reply from Congress that we have not accepted the proposal.”

He said, “It was Modi government that implemented this proposal for the benefit of farmers.” He explained to the farmers about all the three laws which have been made for them and claimed that many farmers have supported this new laws.
“In Punjab there are farmers who have already given their produce but on one side they take the benefit and on the other side they also support the agitation. There we have Akali Dal, Congress, AAP and all three have opposed this law and it is only agitation for politics,” Javdekar alleged.
He informed that the government is trying to hold small meeting in the country to make the farmers aware about the benefits of these laws.
“The Modi government has come up with several laws which will benefit the farmers. We give them krishi cards, supply water through irrigation projects, new accounts have been opened, everyone are having mobiles, Aadhaar Cards and this is in a sense development of the country,” he added.
He requested the farmers to support the government in its endeavour. About 150 farmers were present.
