PANJIM: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Goa has issued an alert for the State predicting heavy to very heavy showers till August 7.
Urging people to stay indoors, the IMD has also warned fishermen not to venture into sea due to rough weather conditions. “The south-west monsoon currents have been very much active over Goa coast. The rainfall will intensify till August 7,” IMD Goa director Krishnamurty Padgalwar said.
IMD has issued orange alert for the State with heavy to heavy rainfall warning. Due to strong winds and rough sea conditions, fishermen are advised not to go into deep sea, Padgalwar said.
On Sunday, State witnessed average of 50mm of rainfall. Waterlogging in Panjim’s low-lying areas of Mala, Camrabhat, Patto colony was reported. The season’s total rainfall has touched 2200mm, which is almost 5 percent surplus till date.
