MARGAO: Salcete police stations registered four separate cases of online cheating on Saturday. As per information, two cases have been registered by Colva police while the remaining two have been registered by Maina Curtorim police station pending investigation.

In the first case, a resident of Benaulim lodged a complaint with Colva police stating that she received a text message on her mobile saying that ‘last month’s electricity bill is pending and has to be paid.’
The caller also asked the complainant to pay the bill and further asked her to upgrade and pay Rs 10 first.
He asked the complainant to open the link. However, after opening the link she found Rs 75,0571 were deducted from her account. PI Filomena Costa is investigating the case.
In the second case, a woman from Sernabatin lodged a complaint that a mobile user directed her to install an app and told her that she would receive some amount and convinced her to pay Rs 40,000 and cheated her.
In the third case, an unknown person contacted a complainant from Davorlim through the Internet and asked him to invest Rs 58,000 and later cheated him and refused to pay back.
In yet another case registered by Maina-Curtorim police against an unknown person who promised to provide him with a job and induced him to deposit Rs 57,500 in his account but failed to provide him with a job.
