Sanjivani panel chief urged to solve cane farmers’ woes

SANGUEM: The Uus Utpadak Sangarsh Samiti, Sanguem has called upon Sanjivani Sugar Factory Facilitation Committee chairperson Adv Narendra Sawaikar to immediately solve the problems faced by the sugarcane cultivators in Goa.

The Samiti recently submitted a memorandum to Sawaikar highlighting the problems of the farmers and called for the resumption of Sanjivani for this year’s crushing season.

The farmers demanded that the general body meeting of shareholders and affiliated members of Sanjivani factory be held immediately to allay farmers’ doubts.

In the memorandum, the farmers also demanded that immediate steps be taken to calculate the highest average of sugarcane supplied by the cane cultivators to Sanjivani in the last eight years. They called for taking immediate steps with regards to payment of compensation to the farmers for the standing crop. 

The farmers sought payment of 75 per cent compensation amount by March-end and the balance amount by May-end this year. The other demands include immediate replacement of factory’s machinery and harvesting the crop during the current season by month-end to ensure that farmers take up fresh plantation in March.
