PANJIM: Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte has demanded a “support package” for the people dependent on iron ore mining industry, until there is full-fledged resumption of the activities.
In a tweet, Khaunte has urged the Chief Minister to prioritise resumption of mining sector in a bid to restore the livelihoods.
He said mining, which is the pillar of Goa’s economy, is in limbo for past 1000 days and has dragged the dependents into utter poverty.
“The Chief Minister should prioritise resumption of mining sector thus restoring the livelihoods and also provide support package until full resumption of mining,” the former minister tweeted further.
The iron ore mining industry is shut since mid-March 2018, after the Supreme Court set aside the renewals granted to 88 leases terming it as “illegal”.
