RAIA: SC Davorlim downedNavelim SC 2-0 to clinch the 45th Custodio Memorial inter-village football cup, organized by Raia Sporting Club, at Raia panchayat ground, on Friday.
The teams played with vigour defending their area at the same time trying to score in the rival citadel.
Navelim SC had the first say at the SC Davorlim goal as Aldrich Coelho took control of the ball and moved towards SC Davorlim goal however Perryson Rebello tackled his move in the 10th minute.
It was a tough fight until SC Davorlim took the most desired lead in the 30th minute through Clifton Rebello’s strike making it 1-0.
Crossing over, Navelim SC put up a fight to find the equaliser however SC Davorlim’s defence was up to the mark.
It was in the 40th minute that Perryson Rebello scored his goal striking the final nail in the coffin as his grounder crashed at the back of the net.
Winners were awarded Rs 45,000 plus trophy while runners-up had to content with Rs 30,000 and trophy.
Individual prize for first scorer of the final was awarded to Clifton Rebello (SC Davorlim), best forward of the final to Aldrich Coelho of (Navelim SC), best half of the final Vellington Rocha (SC Davorlim), best defender of the final Andrew Colaco (SC Davorlim), best goalkeeper Venson Figuerido (SC Davorlim), best hat-trick of the tournament Paxton Gomes (SC Davorlim), oldest player of the tournament Baptisto D’Mello (CAC Cansaulim), best disciplined team Albert Developers CDJ Ribandar.
Evencio Quadros, Chairman and Managing Director Quadros Group was the chief guest, while Francisco C Sardinha, former chief minister of Goa presided over the function and gave away the prizes to winners and runners-up, in the presence of other dignitaries.
Savio Gomes welcomed the dignitaries and the players while Anthony Olieveira and Olievier Fernandes compered. Vote of thanks was given by President of Raia SC, Luis Quadros.
