PANJIM: Opposition Leader Manohar Parrikar has charged that ST community faced atrocities under the Congress regime and the government deliberately kept the files pertaining to reservation of constituencies for STs under wraps.
If the process for reservation of constituencies for ST community was started after delimitation exercise of 2009, some senior Congress leaders would have to sit at home, he alleged.
“Digambar Kamat slept on the files as he was afraid that senior Congress man would have to be out of the fray,” Parrikar opined, while informally speaking to media on Tuesday here.
Parrikar said delimitation was done in 2009, and the exercise of reservation of constituencies for ST should have started immediately. “Why wasn’t the exercise carried out,” Parrikar questioned, alleging that that Congress government only paid lip service to ST community.
“The STs faced atrocities under the Congress regime,” charged Parrikar further claiming that it was only during the BJP regime that issues of ST were taken up.
Parrikar refused to comment on the statement of Member of Rajya Sabha Shantaram Naik accusing BJP of systematically planning to crush the Bahujan samaj. “He is an empty vessel that makes big noise,” said Opposition when asked to react to Naik’s statement .
