RAIA: Sporting Club of Davorlim -defeated Calangute Association 1-0 to storm into the quarter-finals of the 45th Custodio Memorial inter-village football tournament, at Raia panchayat ground, on Monday.
Davorlim dominated as Perryson Rebello and Bonny Niasso paired well in most of the ocassions. Perryson Rebello took control of the ball supplied by Bonny Niasso in the third minute and dribbled past the defender and took a shot at the goal from the penalty area which hit the post.
The 7th minute saw Blake Haldankar for Calangute with a solo move but Bonny Niasso of SC Davorlim tackled this move. As the match progressed Velington Rocha of SC Davorlim with his left footer released a strike but the goalkeeper, Selwyn D’Souza of Calangute Association was equal to the task in the 8th minute.
Blake Haldankar of Calangute Association changed the flank from right to left and foxed Bonny Niasso of SC Davorlim but the effort flew over the cross bar of SC Davorlim in the 13th minute.
After the break the second session started by both teams with a clear mind set to score goals, Pedro Gonsalves of Calangute Association should have found the ball at the back of SC Davorlim’s net but Wenson Figuerido, goalkeeper of SC Davorlim fisted the ball for a corner kick in the 33rd minute.
Criston Fernandes of Calangute Association was sent off after a second yellow was shown by match refree, in the 35th minute. -
Perryson Rebello collected the ball by Bonny Niasso and pulled his trigger shot which became the match winner for SC Davorlim. SC Davorlim will meet Cortalim villagers in the quarter final on July 10.
