PANJIM: Fifty-two African nationals, who according to Goa police are all Nigerians had never complained, about the Goan cuisine provided to them by the jail authorities, to the Goa State Human Rights Commission (GSHRC).
According to a section of the media, the foreigners had boycotted food in the Central Aguada Jail for two days demanding Chinese food.
Sources said they are reportedly being served non-Indian food in the three separate jails they are lodged at but complaints, that they do not like the local food, were never brought to the fore.
“They did not complain about the Goan cuisine because they are reportedly being served egg-biryani and chicken biryani as well. They had certain other grievances which are not in the domain of the commission,” said a jail official.
The GSHRC Secretary had visited the jail, last week to record the statements of three Nigerians – Anane Innocent, Olcoro Ndidi and Sunday Onye Lucky in custody. A report in this connection will be submitted to the Commission on Tuesday.
Various extra activities are organized in the jails and recently, a workshop was organized for the inmates at Aguada.
