PANJIM: Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation’s Subash Nage, PWD officials and contractor’s employees on Wednesday met with residents staying on the National Institute of Oceanography Circle-Dona Paula jetty road, work on which has been dragging on for long with the latter expressing displeasure over the same.
Residents had alleged that for the past over 15 days there was no work going on and that the PWD was apparently not cooperating with the contractor and this had delayed the work. However Nage is said to have told the residents that the work would be completed by December 2014.
According to sources, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar was upset over the slow pace of work and wanted the problems to be sorted out.
Sources said that the PWD had still to remove the old pipeline and the work on laying the new pipeline was delayed due to the non-availability of sand, a point that came up at the meeting.
However, residents told the officials that the work had stopped for the past 15 days and this was causing them a lot of frustration. They also complained that once the water problem was sorted – if one went by the promises – then the sewerage work will have to be redone and that would delay the work even further.
When PWD’s D Borkar was asked about the allegations of non-cooperation levelled against his department vis a vis the contractors, he said that he would look into it. When contacted, Nage said that he was in a meeting and would call back later.
