NAVELIM: Varca SC downed Navelim SC 4-2 via the tie-breaker to move into the quarter-finals of the 38th Gold Silver Trophy tournament, at the Rosary ground, Navelim, on Wednesday.
Navelim’s Travis Souza connected a well measured ball to Aldrich Coelho but the latter’s move was foiled by Varca’s Joylon Cardozo in the fourth minute. Two minutes later, Varca’s Leo Martins’ shot was blocked by Covan Lawrence.
Navelim’s Travis D’Souza in the 36th minute netted the first goal of the match with an arrow bound shot but the joy was short-lived as Leo Martins equalised for Varca in the 56th minute.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Varca SC netted through Joylon Cardozo, Aaron Rodrigues and Aaron Baretto for Navelim SC only Climax Lawrence scored.
Varca SC will now meet the winners of Cuncolim Union and Chandor Club in the quarter-finals on September 24.
