“We are planning to introduce online filing of complaints of missing items. This will not include any form of theft cases,” Director General of Police T N Mohan told Herald.
The pilot project, he said will begin in the next one-to-two months as it is currently at discussion stage. The concept will not only reduce a complainant’s hardship to physically appear before the police station to file complaints, it will also help the department to reduce paper work. Moreover, tourists, who often lose their belongings during their vacation can also file complaints from anywhere in the world.
Mohan added the system would help the police to compile data of the number of missing complaints online.
Online FIRs registered in the given format can be accessed from headquarter or other police stations as all police stations will be through CCTNS.
The centrally funded project, expected to bring in transparency and efficiency, has not been able to fully take off as on date.
The department, is therefore planning to begin its implementation phase-wise.
