Voter needs to know Criminal background of their candidate: CEC

Panjim: After announcing the Goa election polls, Chief Election commission of India has made it mandatory for political parties to upload on their website detailed information regarding individuals with pending criminal cases selected as poll candidates. They will also have to give a reason to select the candidate.

Weeks ago, CEC had made it compulsory that Political parties will have to publish the criminal antecedents of their candidates in newspapers, television channels and on their websites, the Election Commission of India (ECI) said on Wednesday, while assuring that systems are in place to ensure free and fair elections for the Goa Legislative Assembly.

Furthermore, the Election Commission has already made arrangements to ensure an adequate number of EVMs and VVPATs for the smooth conduct of elections”.

The Model Code of Conduct or MCC comes into force immediately and anyone caught in violation will have to face consequences.
