Digging the garden area besides the main road at Campal for the preparation of IFFI has raised concerns from the environmentalists and the tree lovers.
On both sides of the road almost a 1.5-metre garden area in Campal is been dug for planting saplings in view of IFFI. The excavator-JCB machine has been used by the authorities to clear the ground.
Residents of Campal, who are instrumental in preserving the decades old trees, have raised an alarm as the heavy machinery and the digging process will damage the roots of the old tall trees.
People have said that digging would have been done manually with the help of labourers instead of machine.
This is the first time the excavator has been put in force for a job of digging.
Every year people of Campal have been raising the issue of fixing the nails to old trees for installing lights on both the sides of the road which leads to Miramar.
People have demanded to stop the use of nail and use some other material which doesn’t harm trees.
