PONDA: Goa Dairy Chairman Madhav Sahakari on Monday accused the dairy’s Managing Director Dr Navso Sawanth of being involved in Rs eight crore scam.
Addressing the media along with two directors Baburao Komarpanth and Ajay Patil, Sahakari alleged that Sawanth for the last five years has been involved in scam of around Rs 8 crore which includes a fraud of Rs 40 lakh to purchase fill pack machines, another Rs 25 lakh to purchase machinery for ice cream plant and for causing losses to the tune of around Rs 7 crore.
Sahakari informed the media that he possesses audio-video recording with regards to allegations of Rs 40 lakh fraud towards the purchase of fill pack machine and machinery for ice cream plant worth Rs 25 lakh.
He showed the video footage, which appears to be taken on mobile phone wherein Sawanth is seen having a conversation with some person with regards to some deals.
The chairman claimed that the video is crucial evidence and added that he would file a complaint with the Registrar of Cooperative Societies.
He said investigation should be conducted by government and demanded that culprit should be put behind bars.
Meanwhile, when contacted Sawanth rubbished the allegations levelled by Goa Dairy Chairman and said that he is open to any inquiry, anytime and by any authority.
Rejecting the allegations, Sawanth said he is not the sole decision making authority in Goa Dairy and that decisions have been taken after consulting the BoD. He further said that if he was involved in a scam in Goa Dairy then why did the chairman not issue him (Sawanth) a memo and initiate an inquiry.
He informed that a director Vijaykanth Patil was disqualified from BoD at a special meeting held on Monday. A director had complained against Patil for remaining absent for three consecutive meetings of BoD.
“Accordingly, as per law, I called for a BoD meeting wherein the Vijaykanth Patil was disqualified by 8-3 votes. The three votes include chairman and two directors.” he said adding that this move may have irked the chairman to level charges against me.
