PANJIM: Director of Mines and Geology Prasanna Acharya has yet again been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate for questioning in the illegal mining case registered under Prevention of Money Laundering (PML) Act, 2002 after he failed to remain present before authorities on Monday. Acharya has been asked to be present in person on June 26 at the directorate’s city office.
Acharya was summoned last week by ED, which directed him to be present on June 23. However, assistant director Mines Parag Nagarcekar was nominated to represent Acharya, who submitted documents to ED regarding mining operation which took place during 2007-11.
According to officials, Acharya had been issued summons initially and as the investigation goes on, more persons would be summoned.
The case has been registered against government officials, mining companies and entities identified and mentioned in reports of the Central Empowered Committee appointed by the Supreme Court and Justice M B Shah Commission and Goa State Legislative Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee. The directorate has also registered cases against Magnum Minerals Private Limited, Frost International Limited and Bagadiya Brothers Private Limited.
