PANJIM: The Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) has decided to issue a show cause notice to the Captain of Ports (CoP) and directions to stop the work on its new terminal building. At its meeting held on Monday, CCP said it is taking this decision on the grounds that CoP has not taken any permission from them.
CCP has also decided to send its draft Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) to the Environment Department, as it has received objections and suggestions from the citizens.
Speaking to mediapersons after the meeting, CCP Mayor, Uday Madkaikar, said that the pay parking issue will be resolved shortly. He stated that a letter has been addressed to the collector regarding the revised rates for pay parking.
He added that the parking issue in the city would be streamlined once the pay parking is implemented ‘strictly.’ He also gave the example of the existing problems created by haphazard parking by some people. On this note, he warned that vehicles parked on no parking areas and footpaths will be towed by the CCP. He added that if vehicles are towed repeatedly by the CCP, then it will ask the RTO to cancel the license of the driver/ rider be cancelled.
Madkaikar also informed that CCP had received approval from the government for the purchasing of new vehicles.
On another matter, CCP is looking at outsourcing waste management to a private agency. Madkaikar stated that the tenders had been floated and they had received quotes from three parties. He also added that there are plans to outsource the maintenance and cleaning of the market premises. Finally, on the road digging issue, the Mayor said that CCP had a meeting with all the authorities concerned to get clarity on the pending works in the area.
