Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said some former politicians are trying to mislead the people of Saligao by providing them with wrong information.
Parsekar said the project has been built with support of German technology and there is no danger to the locality and the surrounding areas. “It is just an attempt by some former politicians to mislead the people and obstruct good development projects of this government,” Parsekar said.
The government has been facing stiff opposition from the Saligao villagers who raised apprehensions that if the entire North Goa garbage is treated at the Saligao plant then it will be a disaster to the village as garbage trucks from all over will spoil the village roads and surroundings.
Villagers had also raised the issue of two springs in the locality which could be polluted if a large quantity of garbage is treated at the plant and raised the question of repairs in case of a breakdown as if the plant remains nonfunctioning for even 48 hours there will be a stink in the area.
Parsekar said that enough care has been taken while commissioning the plant and assured that nobody will be affected by it.
