PANJIM: Saligao Police arrested six persons for assaulting senior photojournalist Barnabe Sapeco at Saligao on November 11. Porvorim Police have also arrested the prime accused, Vijaykumar Halarnkar, who was involved in the hit-and-run case at Chogam road the same day.
Saligao Police Inspector Rajesh Kumar said that six persons – Vijaykumar Halarnakar (39), Ntha Sakhalkar (43), Swapnil Paswal (37), Samir Nanodkar (37), Hanuman Divkar (43), all residents of Arpora and Devendra Parsekar (30), a resident of Bastora – were arrested and released on bail by a Mapusa court.
Sapeco, whose vehicle was dashed by a car and who was later beaten up, had filed two separate complaints at Porvorim and Saligao police stations due to the matter of jurisdiction. Halarnkar, while coming from wrong side allegedly hit Sapeco’s car and drove away from the spot. When he was intercepted in Saligao, he allegedly called some persons who then assaulted Sapeco.
Porvorim PI Jivba Dalvi said Halarnkar was arrested and released on bail. He said that the car involved in the accident has been seized.
