PANJIM: The Governor Bharat Vir Wanchoo has said that the post independence era has witnessed a major transformation in the socio-economic spheres, to a large measure on account of the expansion and spread of education activities. He said results have been noteworthy and we need to continue our efforts especially through education and empowerment. He said educational institutions have an important role to play in this.
The Governor was speaking at the annual social gathering and prize distribution function of Mallikarjun College of Arts and Commerce at Canacona. Minister for Sports Ramesh Tawadkar, Chairman of Dnyan Prabodhini Mandal R A Mazalikar, Principal Dr F M Nadaf and Co-ordinator Dr Jagmohan Singh were present.
Speaking further the Governor emphasized on the inherent value and role of higher education including technical education. He said we are today living in an age of globalization and intense competition. Our educational institutions should, therefore not merely aim to just teach the prescribed syllabus in order to make the students pass their exams but should also endeavour to equip the students with suitable and adequate skill sets.
Speaking on the natural beauty of Canacona, the Governor said that Canacona is a beautiful place and it has fortunately retained its natural and old world beauty, charm and resources.
Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar called upon the students to excel in studies and at the same time to do well in sports activities too.
The Governor felicitated Dr Pramod Kinnerkar, Kunda Gharse and Shalini Faldesai for their contribution to society.
Ramdas Mazalkar, Chairman and Nadaf also spoke.
