MARGAO: The Programme Committee constituted to commemorate the 258th birth anniversary of Abbe Faria has decided to request the government to establish a museum at Abbe Faria’s house in Candolim and name the IPHB as the Abbe Faria Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour.
The Committee will also urge the government to set up a chair in the name of Abbe Faria in the Psychology department at the Goa University and to establish a mental health counselling centre at Colvale to offer services in various types of counselling at nominal rates to the public.
The compilation and publication of all material available on Abbe Faria, including sources (and four or five plays written about Abbe Faria) may be by the department of Art and Culture or the department of Education.
While the Committee has mulled production of a Tiatr about Abbe Faria, may be in September, on his death anniversary, the panel has urged the government to release a ten rupee coin and postage stamps, celebrating the life of Abbe Faria, informed Convenor of the Program committee Dr Rajendra Hegde.
Addressing the media, Dr Hegde said that Goenkarancho Daiz in collaboration with Indian Psychiatric Society, West zone and Ravindra Bhavan will commemorate the 258th birth anniversary of Abbe Faria on May 31 at the Ravindra bhavan.
He said the celebration intends to spread awareness about the great son of Goa and India. “All over Europe and even in the USA and Russia, Abbe Faria is acknowledged as the Father of Hypnotism. But in the place of his birth, Goa, Abbe Faria remains virtually unknown,” he said, adding that it will be the endeavour of the organisations to create a fitting memorial for the life and work of the national hero.
