PANJIM: Sesa Sterlite stated that it is working towards securing necessary permissions to begin mining operations at the earliest after the Supreme Court lifted the ban on mining.
The court however held that all mining leases in Goa, including those of Sesa Sterlite had expired in 2007 and were thus illegal.
In a press communiqué, the company said that no mining operations can be carried out until renewal/execution of mining lease deeds by the State government and the court in its order of 21st April had lifted the ban on mining in Goa, subject to certain conditions and imposed an interim restriction on the maximum annual excavation from the mining leases in Goa of 20 million tonnes subject to determination of final capacity by Expert Committee appointed by the Supreme Court.
