MAPUSA: The Tivim panch on Wednesday claimed to have not received any report declaring her positive for COVID-19, but suspected the same to be a political move ahead of sarpanch election.
The panch said, “I haven’t received any message mentioning that I have tested positive or even negative for COVID 19. I have only received a message, which stated that my swab samples have been collected for testing.”
“On Monday night, the health officer of Colvale Primary Health Centre called me and informed that I tested positive for virus. In the reports sent to me via WhatsApp by the doctor, no where it is mentioned that I have tested positive or negative. The report only states HIGHLY DETECTED”, the panch said.
“I feel there is political involvement because sarpanch election of Tivim panchayat is due in coming month and since the post is reserved for female, it was my turn to become the sarpanch. There are two panels backed by present Tivim MLA and the former MLA and our panel has the majority. I feel by declaring me to have been infected, the opposition is trying to create a controversy “, the panch alleged.
Former MLA Kiran Kandolkar said, “The report does not specify whether the panch is tested positive or negative. It says HIGHLY DETECTED. The panch had discussed this issue and had also claimed it to be political move”.
Kandolkar said, “This Government can do anything and cannot be trusted. They can declare anyone positive or negative. They make one statement in the morning and another in the evening. I can’t name any specific person, but there are possibilities of a political involvement since the sarpanch election is nearing and her name is in the nomination. May be by declaring her as infected, someone is trying to misguide the people by creating an issue”.
Meanwhile Health Officer of Colvale Health Centre Dr Damodar Narvekar said,” The report is generated from North District Hospital and not from our health centre. Our only duty is to inform the concerned person if he/she is tested positive”.
