PANJIM: Asserting that the municipal election results have proved that anti-BJP sentiments are high, the Congress on Tuesday claimed that it will root out the saffron party in the 2017 Assembly elections.
Addressing the media, Congress spokespersons Sunil Kawthankar and Agnelo Fernandes congratulated the non-BJP winning candidates, stating that despite the campaign by Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and use of government machinery, BJP failed to gain a majority in the election.
“The party which came to power with a landslide victory was reduced to a marginal victory during zilla panchayat elections and now for the municipal polls too they have lost almost half the municipalities,” Kawthankar said.
“It’s like they came in distinction in March 2012, then first class for ZP polls and today could achieve only second class,” he added.
The Congress leader said the democratic mandate of the people has led to a rejection of BJP for their U-turns and false promises. “The strong efforts of Congress workers and its leaders will root out the BJP in the 2017 assembly elections for all their misdeeds,” Kawthankar said.
Fernandes said that the anti-BJP wave is strengthening daily because of the U-turns and lies. “The Congress will take up the task of getting rid of the BJP in Goa and giving Goans a stable government,” he said.
