PANJIM: Goa Football Development Council, Parra grassroots football development centre celebrated their first anniversary with great pomp with a two- day round-robin tournament for under-16, under-14, under-12 and under-10 categories featuring outstation teams Nilgiri Sports Club and BS Academy (both Bengaluru) and MSC besides Yehwah FC Parra, GFDC Parra and GFDC Arpora.
Yehwah SC Parra won the under-16 category by defeating BS Academy 2-0 while BS Academy won the under-14 and under-12 events by getting the better of GFDC Parra 1-0 in both the categories.
GFDC Parra defeated GFDC Arpora 1-0 to clinch the under-10 title. The specialty of the event was the family soccer tournament, where families played against each other, with Camilo’s family emerging victorious.
Chief guest Dr Rufino Monteiro, Chairman of GFDC expressed happiness to see the centre grow from 44 trainees to the present strength of 124 and hoped the centre will produce stars like the village has produced in the past like Visitacao Lobo and goalkeeper Felix.
Parish priest, Fr Alex D’Souza, said he was glad to see the youngsters involved at the GFDC Parra centre and wished the centre all the best.
FC Goa star and Lusofonia winning captain Mandar Rao Dessai was the guest of honour and inspired the young footballers with his words of inspiration.
