BJP will not allow Mapusa hospital to run on Public Private Partnership

The Bharatiya Janata Party will not allow the new Mapusa hospital to be run on the Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode, the Opposition leader Manohar Parrikar said in the House today.
“Mapusa hospital cannot be run on PPP. It will just not be possible,” Parrikar said. He said that BJP warns any party against submitting its bid for the hospital.
“Whoever gives their quote we will tell that we will not allow them to run the hospital,” he stated. “The BJP will agitate against the PPP,” he said.
Instead of privatising, Parrikar said, the government should take a look at the existing facilities at the badly dilapidated and unhygienic Asilo hospital at Mapusa.
“It is necessity of Common man. There are certain things you cannot outsource,” he said.
The BJP has already threatened of agitation if the hospital is not opened by August 15.
The health minister, however, had said he would not open the new Mapusa hospital and the BJP could even “go on hunger strike for 365 days”.
CORRUPTION: Parrikar today claimed that there was a large scale corruption going on in the Horticulture Corporation with regards to the buying of vegetables under the Government Intervention in the Price Control Scheme.
“The Horticulture corporation is not buying any vegetable from the local farmers. Instead they are buying it from the neighboring Belgaum for hefty commission,” Parrikar charged in the House participating in the discussion on budget 2010-11.
He said there is a large scale corruption in the corporation.
“I don’t understand why they are not buying from the local farmers,” he said.
“Are Goans not agriculturist? There are 257 centres sell vegetable but none from Goa,” he stated.
He said this is one of the major reasons for the decline of agriculture in last three years.
“In the year 2005-06 when the Congress government took over the agriculture GDP was Rs 655 cr which has now dropped to 517 cr,” he said adding “… there is a decline of 22.5 per cent.”
This, he said, is happening as the government is not treating all farmers properly.
“The government needs to give them confidence that it is supporting them,” he said.
