The match was played at a very fast pace with Wayne (2) and Melistan scoring for the host while Nevile and Welson reduced the margin for Maina SC.
Ponda Footballers opened the scoring when Aaron took the ball on the flanks and sent in a well-measured cross in the box to Wayne, who headed in the opener.
At the other end, Maina nearly missed to equalize when Nevile’s shot sailed inches over the crossbar. They finally made it 1-1 through Nevile after a goalkeeping error by the Ponda custodian.
In the second half, Ponda took the lead after Wayne sent in a through pass and Melistan Pereira placed the ball into the net with a deft placement.
At other end, Joel’s powerful shot was fisted away by the Ponda keeper. In the 50th minute Wayne increased the lead through an inside the box strike.
Maina further reduced the margin through Welson but it was not enough.
Ponda now clash against Nerul SC on July 15. Wayne of Ponda won the man-of-the-match.
