Residents of Tonca-Marcaim have alleged that maximum water is being pumped to Madkaim Industrial Estate, thereby putting the villagers to a lot of hardship.
“About 100 houses in Tonca have been facing water shortage for the last three days,” claimed the residents.
The residents have accused operators at the water tank located near the industrial estate of releasing water to the industries instead.
In protest, about hundred villagers gathered at the water tank and demanded to know how industries were supplied water on time but not to them.
Supervisor Guru Naik claimed that a busted pipeline was the reason for water shortage and water supply will be restored only after it is repaired.
“Work is going on to repair water pipeline at Priol. There is also low water pressure and once it is repaired then water supply will be restored,” said Naik.
Not satisfied with Naik’s reply, the aggrieved villagers claimed that the problem is routine, as water is released to the industrial estate.
“We are not getting water for the last three days, but water supply to the industrial estate is unaffected. How can this be happen? Villagers are left to suffer,” said Olav Aguair of Tonca.
“It is given to understand that water to industries is released between 10 am and 12 noon but we noticed that water is being released also after 12 noon. Is this a aam aadmi’s government,” asked Aguiar.
Another resident, Divyashree Fadte, said: “We are facing water problem on regular basis. Water wells in our village are also not in good condition, water is also contaminated but we are forced to use the water from wells. Hope the authorities will do something.”
Operator at the water tank agreed that water was released to industries way beyond specified time and some of the industry people were illegally opening the valve. Surprisingly, no complaint was made to the higher-ups.
“I always close the valve at about 12 noon, but it is opened by the industry people. I will complaint it to my superiors,” claimed operator Nitin Gaude.
