According to information, the incident occurred at around 4 pm, when a contractor who was demolishing an old Portuguese house near a road failed to block traffic, thereby a posing threat to commuters.
“When the JCB operator was trying to demolish a column of the old structure, a wall along with the whole roof came crashing down,” said sources.
At that time, Manguesh Fadte, his wife, daughter-in-law and six-month-old grandchild and a relative were proceeding towards Vasco town from St Andrew’s Church on Swatantra Path lane in a car. He managed to apply the brakes in nick of time, thus saving his family from getting injured by the falling stones.
After the incident, traffic proceeding towards Vasco was diverted for over 30 minutes.
