Nagoa Sporting Club will lock horns with Saligao United in an all-North Goa finals of
37th Bandodkar memorial soccer tournament organised by Baina Sports Club at MPT ground, Vasco on Sunday at 4 p.m.
Chief Minister Digambar Kamat will be the chief guest.
Nagoa as well as Saligao United entered the finals via the tie-breaker with their goalkeepers Nandan Simepuruskar (Nagoa Sporting) and Dietman Fernandes (Saligao United) being the key players.
Nagoa edged out Goa Velha Sports Club 1-0 in the first round and in the quarter-finals ousted Saligao Sporting Club. They beat last year’s runners-up Don Bosco Oratory via tie-breaker 3-2.
Saligao United Club had to fight tooth and nail to reach the finals. In the first round they had a tough time scoring a solitary goal victory over Salcete giants, United Club of Telaulim, Navelim. In the quarter-finals Saligao United overcame the challenge of St. Savio Sports Club, Calangute 2-0 in an exciting match. However, Saligao had to wait for the tie-breaker to defeat holders Nerul United Club 4-3 to storm into the finals.
Revenue Minister Jose Phillip D’Souza, ex-chief minister, Shashikala Kakodkar, Mormugao MLA Milind S. Naik and industrialist and philanthropist Narayan R. Bandekar will be the guests of honour. President of Baina Sports Club, Rajan Bhosle will preside.
