Home Ministry has recommended handing over the much touted police-drug nexus probe to Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Ravindra Yadav. The file has been forwarded to the Director of Prosecution seeking permission to send DIG to Sweden to record statement of the crucial witness Lucky Farmouse Amori.
The case is presently handled by Crime Branch Superintendent of Police Chandrakant Salgaonkar, who Home Ministry sources say cannot go to Sweden and get deposition of the witness.
Sources said DIG Ravindra Yadav has been selected by the police to visit Sweden and get statement of Lucky Farmhouse. “It has been recommended that Yadav should take over the case, if he wants to visit Sweden…Police had earlier furnished to the Bombay High Court at Goa that an officer to the rank of DIG or Inspector General of Police will be investigating the case,” said an official from the Home Department.
Lucky, had exposed the nexus by uploading video clippings on social networking sites – youtube.com and metacafe.com wherein Israeli drug peddler Yaniv alias Atala Benaim bragged his connections with Goa police.
The revelation led to suspension and subsequent arrests of seven police officials for corruption and conspiracy. Atala, who was arrested in March 11 was released on conditional bail in June 23 is however missing since early July, a fact which was disclosed couple of days ago.
