MARGAO: During an inspection on Thursday, it was decided that a railway flyover would be constructed at Seraulim as a permanent solution to the problematic subway that has remained inaccessible since June this year.

Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas, accompanied by Railway representatives, local panchayat officials, and other government authorities, visited the Seraulim subway to address persistent issues related to its design and drainage system. Despite a hefty financial investment, the relatively new subway, only opened to traffic in March 2023, continues to be unusable, particularly water accumulation, which remains a concern even in the summer months.
Following the inspection, MLA Viegas proposed replacing the existing underpass with a railway flyover. He highlighted that the flyover would resolve the ongoing design flaws and help alleviate both traffic congestion and drainage problems. An
estimate for the flyover project is expected within two months.
Viegas stressed that the project would require financial support from the Railways. “The flyover is a need of the hour as a permanent solution,” he said, emphasising the urgency of addressing the infrastructure issues affecting local commuters.
As a temporary measure, work has begun to pump out the water accumulated in the subway. However, waterlogging remains a problem, underscoring the pressing need for a long-term, sustainable solution.
