PANJIM: In what can spell further trouble for the Goa Cricket Association (GCA) trio booked for fraud, a senior official of Development Credit Bank (DCB), in his statement to Economic Offence Cell (EOC) said initially there were gaps during the opening of the account in the bank, but were later filled by providing appropriate documents.
Sachin Patange, Head (compliance) for DCB, who deposed before the investigating officer last week said the account was opened using a proper route but few necessities like rubber stamp of GCA was not on the account opening form. “But subsequently was made available,” he said.
The bank has ruled out that the account was opened bypassing rules and pointed out that the bank official had personally visited the GCA office and identified them.
EOC has filed an FIR against GCA President Chetan Desai, Secretary Vinod Phadke and Akbar Mulla, who was treasurer, after GCA life member Vilas Desai filed a complaint accusing the trio of forging signatures and opening bank accounts to siphon off the association’s money.
They allegedly opened accounts between October 23, 2006, and May 23, 2008, when GCA was headed by Dayanand Narvekar, Dessai was its secretary and Phadke the treasurer.
All three were arrested by EOC and later released on bail. EOC is further investigating the case.
