MARGAO: Inspection of the old fish market to build the proposed overhead water tank could not take place once again for want of site plan from the Margao civic body, even as district Collector Venancio Furtado on Friday promised to again convene a joint meeting of the agencies to expedite the matter.
PWD Assistant Engineer, Vijai Kudchadkar told the district Collector on the non cooperative attitude of the Margao civic body by not furnishing the site plan of the multi-storey parking lot at the old fish market.
Kudchadkar maintained that the PWD cannot demarcate the land for the proposed overhead tank unless the MMC lays bare its site plan of the multi storey parking project.
When questioned over the lukewarm response from the Margao civic body, Collector Venancio Furtado said that he would call a meeting of the agencies early next week to ensure that things fall in place on top priority. “I will call a meeting of officials of fire, MMC and PWD and ensure that the inspection and demarcation of the old fish market takes place at the earliest,” Furtado said, while expressing his resolve to put a fire fighting mechanism in place in the commercial capital and tone up the fire fighting arrangements.
Meanwhile, the PWD on Friday received a nod from the contractor, who has agreed to accept the work at an estimated cost of Rs 23.28 lakh. Following the acceptance of the work by the contractor, the PWD has forwarded the file pertaining to the construction of 100m3 capacity overhead reservoir at the old fish market for issuance of work order.
