PONDA: Expressing serious concern over the garbage menace in Ponda town and at Curti, former chief minister Ravi Naik said the State government should take urgent steps to tackle the problem before the situation goes out of hand in the taluka.
“After forming the government in the State, the BJP party had promised that it would solve the garbage and plastic problem in Goa. Now two-and-half years have passed and garbage still exists all over the State. The Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) has completed one year but garbage continues to be seen in Ponda market, Khadpabandh, sports complex, Sapna park and surrounding nullahs,” said Naik, while speaking to media persons. He then went on to point out 15 garbage infested spots in Ponda and Curti.
Accusing the PMC for the controversial sopo tax issue, Naik also blamed the deputy chief minister for his failure to solve the problem.
Claiming that there was poor administration in the State, Naik also complained about poor facilities at the ID hospital in Ponda.
“The ID Sub-District hospital was constructed through my efforts, but the poor people are not getting emergency medical services and they have to travel to GMC for treatment. He cited the instance of the youth who was stabbed at Ponda on Friday and added that he had to be rushed to GMC hospital.
