PANJIM: Entire Patto area and parts of Panjim faced water shortage on Monday, Tuesday and part of Wednesday, since the water pipeline on the Swami Vivekanand Road was damaged on Monday. Off the record the workers said that the pipeline was damaged by the Smart City workers, while Smart City officials strongly denied it.
The 150 MLD water pipeline, in front of Geeta Bakery, Panjim was damaged leading to acute water shortage in parts of Panjim for past three days and causing loss of hundreds of gallons of water.

No notice of interruption of water was given to the residents so that they could store water.
The Public Works Department (PWD) failed to repair the water pipeline on Monday and Tuesday due to non-availability of clamps, which hold the pipelines together.A PWD Engineer confirmed that the work was finally completed by Wednesdayafternoon, to the great relief of Ponjikars.
Eduardo Ferreira, Chief General Manager Smart City said that he was at the spot, but nobody had brought it to his notice that the pipeline was damaged. We have not damaged anything there. He agreed that Smart City work was going on near Geeta Bakery. “We are not doing sewerage work, but we are working on the main road, drains and footpaths. Monday we have not dug in the middle of road. We have started digging today. There is no damage. We are continuously on the site. I was there continuously. Sewerage work is being executed by the PWD. Even if by mistake we have damaged any pipeline, water supply department should have informed us. If it is damaged we will get it rectified. But that has to be established. Simply putting the name of Smart City.”
