PONDA: Ponda MLA Ravi Naik has expressed fears that dumping of several trucks of mud in Khandepar River, for facilitating bandara work, would cause flooding of the Khandepar village during monsoon.
He said that the contractor who has bagged a Rs 5 crore contract for constructing a bandara in Opa Khandepar River has dumped several trucks of mud in the river bed. However, he said, construction of bandara has not been undertaken.
Ravi fears that if the huge dump of mud is not removed from the river, the Khandepar village would likely face flooding during the rains.
He also alleged scam in the work and demanded vigilance probe into work.
The WRD Department is building a bandara in Khandepar River to prevent saline water from entering into OPA water treatment plant site during high tide. The bandara work began few months ago.
After dumping huge quantity of mud on the riverbed, the contractor now says it would be difficult for him to construct the bandara due technical difficulties.
“So, how the WRD approved the proposed work without soil test and feasibility studies. Why the money is being wasted without proper planning?” Ravi questioned and demanded a probe into the proposed work alleging scam.
Meanwhile, the contractor said he would clear the mud as early as possible.
