CALANGUTE: The power supply situation in Calangute, which has been facing daily power cuts, will improve by the end of this week.
This was announced by Calangute Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira following a meeting with the Electricity Department Chief Engineer Stephen Fernandes.

Earlier, on Monday, Calangute villagers and activists from the Calangute-Candolim beach-belt had held a meeting with the sarpanch and panchayat members to voice their anger at the daily power cuts since the beginning of April.
During the meeting, it was decided to meet the chief engineer and hand over a memorandum about the erratic power supply in Calangute.
Speaking to reporters, Sequeira said the chief engineer has assured them that the power supply will improve by the end of the week.
“Our lights go out seven-eight times every day and there is no electricity for four hours at a time. So we thought we should meet the chief engineer and solve the problem,” he said.
While informing that the Fernandes said the cabling work should be completed latest by the end of this week which will improve the supply to consumers, the sarpanch said the electricity infrastructure including a new sub-station coming up at Saligao and augmentation of the Tivim station should solve the power supply problem in the north Goa coastal belt.
Villagers said the power problem has now become a regular feature every year during the months of April-May and despite promises made by electricity department officials there has been no improvement in the situation.
