MARGAO: South Goa Additional Collector’s fiat to the South Goa police to crack a whip against vehicle owners washing their vehicles at the Layamati spring, Davorlim, seems to have no takers.
Washing of vehicles near the renovated spring continues unabated with neither the police nor the authorities initiating action against the violators.
Outgoing South Goa Additional District Collector Sandhya Kamat had written a letter to the police to initiate action against the violators following a complaint received from local panchayat body as well as villagers.
It will be a month since Kamat was shunted out of the District Collectorate, South, but action is still not forthcoming against the vehicle owners misusing the Layamati spring.
A villager Anand Sawant, who had knocked the doors of the Davorlim village panchayat, the police and the District Collector to crack a whip against the erring vehicle owners lamented that police are yet to make their presence felt at the spring. “The Layamati spring was renovated by the authorities as part of a beautification plan. But the same is being misused by erring vehicle owners, who use the place for washing their vehicles,” Sawant said.
“I have taken up the matter again with the Davorlim panchayat body. The Sarpanch has promised he would lead a delegation to the district police chief to initiate action against the vehicle owners,” he added.
Incidentally, many vehicles were seen near the spring for washing. A board put up near the spring warning owners not to use the spring water for washing has been damaged, Sawant added.
