PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has dared the Congress to prove with documents, its allegations about the ongoing works under the Smart City project. Addressing a press conference to unveil the manifesto for the Panjim by-poll, the CM accused the opposition party of indulging in huge scams.
“Congress, which is involved in many scams, is accusing us of corruption. They should produce documents to prove the allegations of scams in Smart City whereas we have all the papers to establish transparency in the project. Contact my office (Chief Minister’s Office) with specific requirement and we will submit those documents,” he said.
At a recent press briefing, Congress attacked BJP’s Panjim candidate Sidharth Kuncalienker with allegations that the tenders of Imagine Panjim Smart City Development Ltd were being issued at three to four times the original estimated cost. Congress State president Girish Chodankar had said that the work for restoration, refurbishing and interior design of headquarters which is tendered at the cost of Rs 20 crore was originally estimated at Rs 5 crore, and demanded vigilance inquiry.
Sawant explained that the Smart City project will take five years to complete and not in a matter of few days as is being argued by many of them. “There are several good projects related to the Smart City, which are underway,” he added.
