Process to appoint CIC, SIC on, says Parrikar

The process for appointing a Chief Information Commissioner and State Information Commissioner is already on, and people would have the names in a month Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said.

PANJIM: The process for appointing a Chief Information Commissioner and State Information Commissioner is already on, and people would have the names in a month Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said. 

Speaking informally to reporters, Parrikar said that currently the committee consisting of the Chief Secretary, Information Secretary and PWD Secretary is in the process of short listing names and making recommendation to the government.  “It should take about a month,” Parrikar said. 

The Goa RTI Forum held a protest at Azad Maidan on Tuesday, on the occasion of Goa Revolution Day to protest since it has been more than a year that the two top posts are lying vacant in the State. 

The Goa RTI Forum had at a convention at Madkai, passed a resolution, on April 21, asking that the Government immediately fill up the vacant posts. The CM had promised in the assembly on April 23, 2013, that the Information Commissioner would be appointed within one month.

Applications were invited for the third time, during the last one year, to honor his commitment, fixing the last date of the submission of the applications on 25 May 2013. However, even after three weeks from the last date, the appointments have not been made.
