Holiday Arpora champs

MAPUSA, JUNE 12 Holiday SC, Arpora defeated Valankani, Arambol 3-0 to lift the late Dattaram Paleyekar football trophy organised by Football Club of Siolim at St Anthony ground, Siolim on Saturday. The score was 3-0 at the breather.

 Holiday SC, Arpora defeated Valankani, Arambol 3-0 to lift the late Dattaram Paleyekar football trophy organised by Football Club of Siolim at St Anthony ground, Siolim on Saturday. The score was 3-0 at the breather.
 A first half brace from Pradeep Chopdekar set Arpora on course for a convincing victory. Valankani who had to play the semi-final round just 24 hours earlier, lacked the match fitness today.
Arpora opened the scoring in the 6th minute when Adrian Baig crossed from the left and Saish Palyekar cut the ball back and Pradeep Chopdekar fired home from close rage.
Sanjay Kundelkar doubled the lead for Arpora after heading in Saish Palyekar’s corner from the right side on 19th minute.
Two minutes later, Pradeep received a through ball and smashed in Arpora’s third.
After the lemon break the pace of the game reduced and neither team could add to the scoreline.
Arpora custodian Nandu Simpruskar was awarded goalkeeper of the final prize while Arambol’s Bruno Fernandes won the best defender of the final award,
Arambol’s Jovito D’Souza was declared best mifielder and Arpora’s Pradeep Chopdekar was adjudged best striker of the final. Arpora’s Stanley Coutinho was named man-of-the match.
The player of the tournament award was won by Ryan of FC Siolim. Valpoi FC won the most promising team prize and Sodiem FC were awarded the best disciplined team trophy. A special award was given to local players, Anthony D’Souza and Stephen Fernandes of Sporting Clube de Goa.
Jitendra Prabhudesai was the chief guest and gave away the prizes.
Holiday won Rs 27,000 while Valanki had to be content with Rs 20,000.
FC Siolim president, Leslie Fernandes was present along with sports secretay Sylvester Shirodkar and treasurer Rama Pednekar. Kamnaya Shirodkar compered the proceedings.
