PANJIM: The local residents of Panjim and surrounding areas are upset at the increase in the height of city roads and demand that authorities take necessary steps in reducing the height to normal.
The recent carpeting of the roads in Panjim city is one dazzling example where authorities have blindly hot-mixed roads, increasing its height leaving motorists anxious while negotiating sudden depressions on the roads.
The height of the city roads in the city which is around two feet above ground level has created problems for shopkeepers and residents especially during the monsoon.
During the monsoon, rainwater enters the shops, as the height of roads has increased and due to the increase in road height the distance between the road surface and footpaths has reduced.
Many of the roads in Panjim are in good condition but are hot-mixed time and again. “A technology called jet patch is used for filling potholes. So if there are few pot holes on a road it is not necessary to hotmix the road. Jet patching could solve the problem,” said Ramesh Parab, a resident of Panjim.
Every hot-mixing increases the road height by 5 inches, he added.
