Goa River Marathon flags off today

VASCO: The 7th edition of Goa River Marathon will start from Chicalim SAG ground and the route will run alongside the Zuari River, on Sunday.

VASCO: The 7th edition of Goa River Marathon will start from Chicalim SAG ground and the route will run alongside the Zuari River, on Sunday. 
After six successful years the event is now the preferred choice on the National Runner’s calendar.
The Chief Minister of Goa, Laxmikant Parsekar will be gracing the occasion along with actor Shilpa Shetty as the Brand Ambassador, the excitement level of the participants are high as she will be present to meet, great, and inspire the runners with her tips on fitness.
With the notable increase in registrations, this year’s participation is spread across three categories – 42.2K Full marathon distance, 21.1K half marathon, and 5K family fun run. The prize pot for this event is 7 lakhs that is spread across 21 divisions in the above-mentioned categories.
The expo held at the Chicalim SAG Cricket ground saw runners and public in numbers, giving in to all the excitement surrounding the race. The core challenge activity needs special mention as it created an aura of encouragement for the prospective runners.
In addition to the brilliant race experience, all participants will be served breakfast at the end of their run. Each finisher will also go back home with a finisher medal to commiserate this occasion. 
President, Vascop Sports Club Nitin Bandekar said, “The 7th Edition of the Goa River Marathon promises to deliver the best to the runners. We have over 3500 participants from across the globe, with over 1400 in the 10K category alone and this proves the rise in our local runners. Vasco Sports Club in association with NEB Sports wishes all a great run and a fabulous event”.
Runners will be taking over the streets from wee hours of the morning on December 11.
Flag-off timings of the races are: FM (42.2K) – 4.30 a.m., HM (21.1K) – 6 a.m. 10K – 7.30 a.m., 5K Family Run – 9 a.m.
The flagship 10K Challenge events promote participants to incorporate running into their lifestyle.
