Announcing the event, Cauvery Adiga, CEO, NEB Sports and Entertainment; Sunil Shetty, Director Operations, NEB Sports; Nitin Bandekar, president, Vasco Sports Club and Abhijit Salkar, treasurer, Vasco Sports Club informed that this year’s response has been overwhelming with more than 6000 participants across various categories.
Goa River Marathon will have Marathon and Half Marathon routes for long distance marathoners, 10 kms route for short distance runners and a 5 kms route.
Goa River Marathon is one of few runs in India, where the route has been officially approved by the AIMS (Association of International Marathons) and Distance Races and accredited by IAAF. It is listed in the AIMS Yearly calendar of marathon races worldwide.
The total prize money is Rs 7 lakhs which is spread across various categories.
To encourage the special children a Special Olympics event is being organised in the fantastic venue of the Goa River Marathon which will commence at 8.30 a.m.
The participants will be heading to Chicalim SAG Cricket ground to collect the event day kits at the Sports Expo full day from December 8-10.
Runners will be taking over the streets at wee hours of the morning on December 11. Flag-off timings of the races will be; Full Marathon (42.2K) at 4.30 a.m.; Half Marathon (21.1K) at 5.30 a.m.; 10 kms at 6.30 a.m.; 5 kms at 9 a.m.
